Cohutta Large Puukko
A Cohutta Puukko is a logical pattern for Russell Reece who draws inspiration from traditional knife styles that have stood the test of time as being efficient and effective cutting tools. The Puukko pattern has a long history of practical and real use by the indigenous Sami cultures of Finland and Sweden for wood carving to food procurement. These cultures spent centuries utilizing cutting tools to sustain their survival and way of life. If you look, you can see the Finnish inspiration in the Cohutta Puukko, and rest assured that this cutting tool will serve you well. Its design has been long tested on more than bottles and fruit on a Youtube channel
This Large Puukko is crafted from A2 tool steel, allowing for easy edge maintenance and good all around performance. A2 will patina like O1, but slightly slower and on paper is shown to be a tougher steel. 1/8" A2 with a tapered tang gives this knife a great balance. The 8 1/2" overall length with 4" of cutting edge is, in our opinion, right where it needs to be for an optimal wood working tool. Black Ash Burl sits on blue g10 and natural micarta liners with 1/4" natural pins and lanyard tube to give this Puukko a combined weight of 4.59 ounces. This is a beautifully designed and crafted wood carving tool.
